>> dana: good evening. thank you for joining us on this special day. hours ago on the steps of u.s. capitol, president obama took the oath of office for the second time as his wife michelle and his lovely daughters looked on. a beautiful brisk day in the nation's capitol and hundreds of thousands were there to watch the historic moment, which happened to fall on the day we remember, martin luther king junior. here is part of his speech. >> what binds this nation together is not the colors of our skin or the tenets of our faith, or the origins of our names. what makes us exceptionalbe, and what makes us american, is our allegiance to our idea articulated in a declaration made more than two centuries ago. we hold these truths to be self-evident. that all men are created equa

orderly way. there is no mob. no coop. no insurrection. this is a moment when millions stop and watch. >> dana: so we are going to two a quick round here and we have other sound to get to. see what "the five" thinks about it. this is a moment you predicted on election day what happened. what are your thoughts overall? >> bob: as a progressive, a great populist speech. it would remind me of what taft would have said and huey long would have said. it is a -- for those of us on the left, it was a reaffirming speech. it was one that, where he underscored what he has been saying all along. there is a place for government. government does help a lot of people get places. we don't agree on that obviously, but -- >> dana: do you think that has s what he has been saying all along? if you compare the 2008 speech to this one, it's the same? >> bob: what i would say in this without sour grapes.

in 2008 he tried to break across the gridlock and he didn't get anywhere so now he will go alone. >> eric: a lot of people on the right said he thinks he has a mandate because he was re-elected. his speech sounded like i have a mandate for the next term, the next four years. he talked about gay rights and climb change. weeping entitlement off the table. equal pay and immigration. those are things we'll hear in the next four years. it reads like a liberal agenda, top to bottom, i am going after it and getting it done. too bad, you lost, i won. looks like another victory lap. >> dana: we will get in sound bites later. the parade is still going on and the president and mrs. obama, the girls are in the viewing area. so we will continue to show you that while we get thoughts overall. when you look at the family, give me your thoughts about that. >> kimberly: this is a happy moment for the obama family.

i love to see the girls. they look beautiful and they are proud of their father as they should be. i thought michelle looked great, too. they behaved wonderfully. they were smiling and happy and they seemed genuinely enthusiastic and proud of him. overall, i thought today well done. >> dana: greg, you stayed up all night in anticipation for the speech at noon. your thoughts. >> greg: i actually had my inauguration pajamas on. >> eric: snugige. >> greg: a great day for unity. obama was able to bridge the divide between the left and the hard left. which i think was awesome. this is the thing that drives me nuts about this stuff. how the media trots out the idea of division and unity. when, in fact, the people keep talk about the unity that created the division in the first place. like finding out the guy that broke all of your windows owns the glass repair business. the media stoked the division and with class warfare and gun ownership versus the coastal, and women in the church, black

conservative and regular black folks who aren't conservative according to them. you walk the media talk about unity is watching ted bundy talk about romance. they don't know a damn thing about it. weird. >> eric: can i jump in and agree with you 100%? there is an article -- i was going to hold this for later but an article written by john dickerson, the political news, the cbs political director. powerful position. he wrote for slate magazine, i believe on friday or saturday. he used terms like obama must go for the throat of the g.o.p. he said they must pulverize the republicans, delegitimize his opponents, declare war on republicans. there is a picture. that is the. guy hold on. that is exactly what greg just said. the media allows the left to divide and concur, that is what they have seen. >> bob: he didn't use the word. he didn't say entitlement need

now, more than ever, we must do these things together. as one nation. and one people. >> dana: okay. if you just listen to that you think we'll all work together. if you are reading between the lines, greg, what did you hear in that? >> greg: who uses the word "collective action" anymore other than ows protesters and exbombers with pony tails now tenure academic campuses? the only collective action that works are garbage men. it's, it reminds you, that you can't take the teachers lounge out of the grad opportunity. it will always be there. north dakota is where we -- >> kimberly: socialism. >> bob: this is where we have a disagreement. it doesn't have anything to do with socialism. what he said -- let me raid it. you didn't build that bids, what he said here is collectively, we put together the infrastructure in this country and government was on the forefront that allowed to us have the greatest economy in the world. whether it was research labs, roads, transportation. that was the initiative of

government. that is where we have a disagreement. >> eric: where do they get money to build the roads? >> bob: of course they got it from taxes but it was a right decision to do it. >> kimberly: from people who work hard. >> eric: they hired people to put the road down with our -- >> bob: how would you get around that? >> eric: we built it. they just farm it out. let me point something out. this speech is filled with hypocrisy. the man literally said a decade of war is now ending. a couple hours after a drone took out two people in yemen. i mean, he spoke one. but by the way, here is what happened. on my twitter and facebook today, all day, i got comments, like multiple to what i usually get. something along the lines of i can't watch. i have heard enough. flush my head down the toilet. we asked for it, we bought it. you have own it. prim so upset -- >> bob: surprise from your twitter or facebook list? >> eric: look at the numbers. look at the income numbers, or debt numbers and you wonder how could they vote for

people anxious over the direction of the country are precisely that way because they are worried about, they aren't taking the country for granted. that is why they are worried. the only people that take it for granted are the people that mock people who concerned about this councilmember. those are -- about this country. they take it for granted because they make fun of people seeing fragility of the country. >> bob: the same democracy elected obama to second term. >> kimberly: greg, for a second, but let's listen to what the president has to say about the climate change and how it's affecting bob beckel. >> eric: we would respond to climate clang knowing it would affect the children and the nurture generations -- future generations.
